Desert Best Friends Closet

Partnership

Transgender Community Coalition and Desert Best Friends Closet have come together to provide Transgender, Gender Non-Conforming and Intersex people interview clothes for job placement. Because Transgender people come in all shapes and sized. It is important to call and talk to Connie or Mathew directly to make sure they have those sizes in stock at that time. If they do not, they have pledged to work and find those sizes for you. They will also help with resume and interview preparations.

Interview Attire Program

Desert Best Friend's Closet (DBFC) partners and collaborates with other agencies (including the Transgender Coalition) in the Coachella Valley to provide interview-appropriate attire at no cost to individuals seeking employment who do not have the means to buy such attire themselves.

All clients receive one-on-one wardrobe and image education services from trained volunteers. At Desert Best Friend's Closet, clients receive focused service in a boutique-like environment that treats everyone with dignity and respect. Clients leave not only with suitable clothing but also with the knowledge of how to dress appropriately. This increases our clients’ confidence and enables them to make positive first impressions at job interviews.

We operate on an appointment basis only.  Walk-ins are not accepted. DBFC is happy to serve clients from the transgender community. If you are part of the Department of Rehabilitation or Riverside County GAIN programs, kindly ask them to refer you for our services. Otherwise, mention that the Transgender Coalition has referred you. To schedule a wardrobe appointment, call 760-776-9975. If you need unique sizes, you are encouraged to call to discuss availability with the director, Connie Golds.

Bridge to Employment

Desert Best Friend’s Closet’s Interview Attire Program enables clients to make a positive first impression at job interviews.  But clients often need more than wardrobe assistance to secure employment. The Bridge to Employment Program complements our Interview Attire Program by helping clients become better prepared for their job searches, including assistance with resumes, mock interview practice and general job search tips. This is a 4-part workshop series on Mondays from 10am, to 12pm. Interested workshop participants need to call 760-776-9976 and ask for Matthew Campos to register for the series which begins the first Monday of each month.
