Raina Chessman Fund

Riana Chessman, a Transgender woman from Palm Springs, California, was savagely murdered in 1999.  Her decapitated body was later found in Whitewater, California, with all of her digits removed.  In March of 2015, her head was discovered in Idyllwild, California, allowing for some closure of this horrific event.   However, the perpetrator of this heinous crime has never been caught, bringing to light the ongoing issues facing the Transgender community.

However, the perpetrator of this heinous crime has never been caught, bringing to light the ongoing issues facing the Transgender community. Many existing resources and charitable organizations do not actively recognize, nor fully support, the unique needs of LGBTIQ individuals. In particular, transgender, intersex, and questioning persons have a more difficult time obtaining access to resources that would otherwise help them become functional members of society. These gaps in supportive resources leave these individuals at higher risk for violent crimes, persecution, criminal activities, and discrimination as they attempt to navigate systems not designed to assimilate their unique and special needs.

The Raina Chessman Committee is an active sub-committee functioning under the guidance and purpose of the Transgender Community Coalition (TCC), dedicated to resource provision in support of transgender individuals of Coachella Valley and outlining communities. TCC has been actively collecting and maintaining a registry of supportive organizations, dedicated to helping transgender persons achieve stability and successful growth in their communities. Recently, TCC established a charitable fund in honor of Raina Chessman designed to help support transgender persons facing various live crises, which would otherwise result in potentially tragic outcomes.

TCC is uniquely positioned to align community resources and assist with community assimilation for transgender persons, who are suffering from barriers to societal confirmation. Transgender persons needing assistance are encouraged to reach out to TCC for more information, and apply on-line for support.
